Mina,

You beat me to the punch - it was a widget. I'm a Newbie and am figuring out some things the hard way. I appreciate your prompt response. I'm really digging this theme too. Thanks!

Mike,

It's hard to tell from your source code exactly HOW you set them up (you don't say). It almost looks like a plugin of some sort or you're using widgets.

If you're using a plugin, deactivate it. I can't really help more than that with a plugin since I don't know what plugin it is (if it is).

If it a widget then go back into the widget section and under "Current Widgets" click the edit link (on the right hand side) and deselect 'show as dropdown'.

Mina,

I am working with your Misanthropic Theme and am having trouble editing category (post/link?) drop down boxes on the left hand side of the page. I set them up and am now trying to delete them. I cannot figure out how to change this. Help! Thanks.

You shouldn't have to but if you're having trouble making changes you may need to.

I'm referring you to this article on the Codex is a great resource - http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions

It explains things well.

Using the numbering section in the edit posts should also reorder the sidebar pages. This is very weird because when I renumber the pages on my setup they are reordered in the sidebar only and NOT in the top menu.

Are you using widgets in the sidebar? If so go into the widget page and click edit on the Pages widget and you'll see a dropdown box titled "Sort By" and the options are: 'Page Title', 'Page Order' or 'Page ID'. Pick page order and hopefully that will take care of that.

And if you are not using widgets in the sidebar, can you email a copy of your right_sidebar.php to admin@the-cloisters.net?

Thanks for your reply! Actually I already have my pages numbered and showing well in the top menu. However they are in alphabetical order in the sidebar. How can I change that? You can see what I mean here: http://permaculturefrancophone.org/

Bastou,

This is a question I've been asked several times in emails, so now that it's been asked here I think it's a good time to address it for you Bastou and others with the same question. Now let's see if I can do this without too much of my rambling. :D

To utilize the page order function in WordPress you need to reorder <strong>ALL</strong> the pages not just some. So for instance if you have 10 pages and want your 'About' page to be number 7 you can't just make that page number 7, you have to number the other pages also 1-6 and 8-10.

And also when numbering the pages keep in mind that as you number them they automatically go down to the bottom of the list. So page 1 will go last, page 2 under that, page 3 under that one and so on until they are all numbered.

And lastly, if things aren't going exactly as they should remember that the WordPress gurus themselves have said about this function:
<blockquote>We know this is a little janky, it’ll be better in future releases.</blockquote>

I know I sometimes confuse things more when I explain, so if you still aren't sure just ask and I'll try again.

<em>(YAY, the first time I've used the new reply function...and it worked!)</em>
