So WordPress 2.8 has been released and from playing around with the development versions it really seems pretty awesome. I did notice that they deprecated the author functions which is a bit of a problem as I’ve used those function in my themes (the Author Info page, Bio blocks, etc). So that means I need to do some upgrading for my themes. I’m not sure of the extent of what needs to be done yet but will get going on those upgrades asap.

As far as I can tell, besides that author thing, the themes do work in 2.8 so keep that in mind if you upgrade to 2.8. I’ll keep everyone updated on my progress with the upgrades so keep checking back here.

May I present the newest offering…

It’s a Multi Column (1 sidebar, 2 main content colums, 2 right hand sections and 3 footer sections all widgetized) fixed width theme loosely inspired by the art galleries of Soho New York and is perfect for a showcase/portfolio or scrapbook type site. It features an author info page and gravatars along with Custom Archives, Sitemap, Blog Post and full width No Sidebars page templates. Tested in Firefox, Opera, Safari, IE6 and IE7. Compatible up to Wordpress 2.7 and is XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS 2.1 valid right out of the box.

SETUP INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Go into Admin >> Appearances >> Editor >> index.php and find these lines (there are 2 sets – 1 for the left colum and 1 for the right column):

php query_posts(‘cat=1&showposts=3′);
php $posts = get_posts(‘category=1&numberposts=3&offset=0′);

Change the category ID number (in 2 places) to the category you want to display. You can also change the number of posts that are shown (also in 2 places) although for asthetics 3 in the left column and 2 in the right column is recommended.

2. To change the headings of the main content columns go into Admin >> Appearances >> Editor >> index.php and find this line (2 places) and change the text between the < h3>< /h3> tags:
< div class="title">< h3>HEADING< /h3>< /div>

3. To have the images show up in the left hand content column you’ll need to install the Get The Image plugin created by Justin Tadlock. You can download it here: Get The Image.

I’ve gone back to basics with this one. I wanted something simple and elegant to serve as a basic blog template and I think I’ve accomplished that with this theme. I hope you like it as much as I do.

It’s a very clean 2 Column theme with one sidebar on the left side, widget-ready fixed width theme sporting a basic elegance featuring pretty mauve and pinkish colors. It has an author info page, gravatars and author box along with Custom Archives, Sitemap and full width No Sidebars page templates. Tested in Firefox, Opera, Safari, IE6 and IE7. Compatible up to Wordpress 2.7. And yes, it’s valid XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1 right out of the box.

A bit of a more sophisticated theme, at least for me. I gave more attention to the graphics on this theme than I have on the others. It’s a 3 Column, widget-ready fixed width theme featuring an extended footer (non-widgetized), author info page, gravatars and highlighted author comments in the comments section along with Custom Archives, Sitemap and full width No Sidebars page templates. Tested in Firefox, Opera, Safari, IE6 and IE7. As always, it’s valid XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1 right out of the box and also fully compatible up to Wordpress 2.7.

I have to say that this theme is my most favorite of all of them. It was inspired by a site I saw somewhere on the net (sorry I don’t remember where). But yeah, it’s a great theme! In fact I like it so much i’m using it here on this site.

Now on to the particulars…it’s a 5 Column (main content, 2 sidebars and 2 top sections), widget-ready fixed width theme in soothing Creme and Brown colors featuring an author box, author info page, gravatars and highlighted author comments in the comments section along with Custom Archives, Sitemap and full width No Sidebars page templates. Tested in Firefox, Opera, Safari, IE6 and IE7. It’s read for the new Wordpress 2.7 comment threading feature while still being compatible with older versions. And of course it’s valid XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1 right out of the box.
