Increase body text size

Increase body text size

Postby katieploeger » Mon May 24, 2010 4:49 pm

I write for older readers and the font size is too small for many of them. How do I increase the font size? I went into the Editor but couldn't figure out which number to change.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

To increase the font size, go into Admin >> Appearances >> Editor >> style.css and find these 2 lines:

for the body:
  Code:
body { background: #83673b url(images/body_bg.jpg) repeat; color: #544b40; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: .8em; margin: 0; padding: 0; }

for the sidebar:
  Code:
#sidebar { font-size: 11px; width: 210px; float: left; margin: 0 0 10px 25px; padding: 10px 0; }

The value you're looking to change in each line is font-size.

Hope that helps! :)

Okay, I found the lines, but the measurements make no sense to me.
If I want to raise the font size to an equivalent of Time Roman 14 point, what would the "em" number be? Same with the "px" number? I've tried .10, .12, and .12 with the em and see no change when I then visit the site. Sorry for the pestering but I need to get this fixed.
Thanks

If you're more comfortable using px values, you can go ahead and do that. If you want the value set at 14px you can change it to that, no need to use the em value if you don't want to.

This is one site that came up in Google that shows Pixel to Ems Conversions.

Hello,
I tried that. I changed the .em to px for both body and sidebar and I even tried 18px, but I saw no different on the screen when I 'visit site'. What am I doing wrong? Please use a few more words to explain this process. I love the look of this page but if I can't get it to a size my readers can use, I'll have to find another theme.
Thanks for your time so far. I'm sure we can get this worked out.

It's looking fine to me, the text is large and easy to read. I checked your css and you've got the body and sidebars set at 14px. Have you tried clearing your cache? Sometimes changes don't show up right off.

Here is a screenshot of what I see when I go to your site:
